Medical aid, self-pay and injury on duty
The practice accepts most major South African medical aid schemes and will help you with pre-authorisation. You will know what to expect before anything is booked.
Medical aid
Bring your medical aid card and ID to the first consultation. The rooms will confirm your benefits and, for surgery, obtain pre-authorisation from your scheme.
Self-pay
If you do not belong to a scheme, or your benefits are exhausted, the rooms will quote you for the consultation and for surgery before you commit.
Injury on duty
Workplace injuries are handled through the Compensation Fund or your employer's insurer. Dr Moagi is an ABIME-qualified Independent Examiner and performs impairment assessments.
Pre-authorisation
How pre-authorisation works
Schemes require approval before planned surgery. The practice does most of this on your behalf.

Dr Moagi confirms the procedure and the codes that apply.
- Step 2
The rooms submit the request to your scheme with the clinical motivation.
- Step 3
Your scheme issues an authorisation number and confirms what it will pay.
- Step 4
The rooms tell you about any co-payment or shortfall before the date is confirmed.
Good to know
Important points about cover
- Scheme rates and practice fees are not always the same. Where there is a difference, you are told in advance.
- Anaesthetist, hospital and physiotherapy accounts are separate from the surgeon's account.
- Authorisation from a scheme is confirmation of benefits, not a guarantee of payment in full.
