Your journey
From first visit to back on your feet
Not knowing what happens next is the most common reason people put off the first appointment. Here is the whole path, step by step.
- 01
The first consultation
You describe what hurts, how long it has been going on and what you can no longer do. Dr Moagi examines the joint and, where needed, arranges X-rays or an MRI.
Bring your ID, medical aid card, any previous scans and a list of your medication.
- 02
Diagnosis and your options
Once the cause is clear, Dr Moagi explains what is wrong in plain language and sets out the options — including the option of not operating.
If surgery is right for you, you will be told what it involves, how long recovery takes and what the risks are before anything is booked.
- 03
Pre-authorisation and preparation
The rooms help you obtain pre-authorisation from your medical aid, and explain any shortfall before the date is confirmed.
You will be given instructions on medication, fasting and what to bring to hospital.
- 04
Surgery
Surgery takes place at Netcare Ferncrest Hospital or Life Peglerae Hospital in Rustenburg. Dr Moagi performs the operation himself.
Most joint replacement patients are up and walking with assistance within a day.
- 05
Recovery and rehabilitation
You work with a physiotherapist on a programme set for your operation. Doing the exercises is the single biggest factor in your result.
Follow-up visits in the rooms track your progress and confirm healing on X-ray where relevant.
- 06
Back to your life
Return to work, driving and sport are decided on how the joint is functioning, not on the calendar alone.
Dr Moagi will tell you when it is safe, and what to avoid long term.
