Treatments
Knee
Worn, painful or unstable knees, cartilage tears and ligament injuries.
Knees are the joint patients come in about most. The cause may be worn cartilage, a torn meniscus, a ligament injury or a kneecap that does not track properly — each needs a different answer.
Procedures Dr Moagi performs
- Total knee replacement
- ACL reconstruction
- Knee arthroscopy
Deciding on surgery
Surgery is not always the answer
Being honest about when an operation helps, and when it does not, is part of the consultation.
When surgery is usually right
- A locked knee, or one that gives way and cannot be trusted on stairs
- Arthritis that limits walking despite treatment without surgery
- A torn ligament in someone who needs the knee for work or sport
When it usually is not
- Swelling and pain that improves with a structured strengthening programme
- Meniscus tears in older knees, which often settle without an operation
- Early arthritis, where losing weight and building the thigh muscle helps most
Recovery
What recovery looks like
- Knee replacement: walking with a frame or crutches within a day
- Arthroscopic surgery: often home the same day
- Rehabilitation matters more in the knee than in any other joint — expect months, not weeks
These are general timelines. Your own recovery depends on your age, your general health and the specific problem being treated. Dr Moagi will give you your own plan.
