Sports Medicine

Injuries from sport and training, and the plan to get you moving again.

Sports injuries are treated with the return in mind. The aim is not only a healed structure but a joint you can trust at full speed, and a clear plan for getting back to your sport.

Procedures Dr Moagi performs

  • Meniscus and cartilage surgery
  • Ligament reconstruction
  • Return-to-sport planning

Deciding on surgery

Surgery is not always the answer

Being honest about when an operation helps, and when it does not, is part of the consultation.

When surgery is usually right

  • A complete ACL tear in someone returning to pivoting sport
  • A displaced or unstable meniscus tear that can be repaired
  • Recurrent instability that has not settled with rehabilitation

When it usually is not

  • Muscle and tendon strains, which heal with graded loading
  • Partial tears in a stable joint
  • Overuse injuries, where the training load is the real problem

Recovery

What recovery looks like

  • Return to sport is decided on function and testing, not on the calendar
  • ACL reconstruction typically means nine to twelve months before pivoting sport
  • Rehabilitation is done with your physiotherapist and reviewed in the rooms

These are general timelines. Your own recovery depends on your age, your general health and the specific problem being treated. Dr Moagi will give you your own plan.
